STF arrests man with fake 500 notes at Dharmatala with face value of 3 lakhs
In Uttar Pradesh’s Etawah district, jeweller Mukesh Verma allegedly poisoned his wife and three children on Monday before attempting to end his own life by jumping in front of a train. According to the police, Verma was rescued by Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel as he tried to leap in front of the Marudhar Express. Though he sustained minor injuries, he was taken into police custody following the incident.
The sequence of events unfolded when Verma reportedly posted photographs of his deceased family members — wife Rekha, daughters Bhavya (22) and Kavya (17), and son Abhisht (12) — to his WhatsApp status. The images were reportedly viewed by Verma’s other relatives, who, alarmed by the sight, rushed to check on the family. Upon entering Verma’s four-storey home, which he shared with his brothers, they found the bodies of his family members lying in separate rooms.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sanjai Kumar confirmed the findings, stating that initial reports indicate the murders may have stemmed from a family dispute. “The bodies of Rekha, Bhavya, Kavya, and Abhisht were found in different rooms in the house,” he said. Authorities have since sent the bodies for postmortem examinations, aiming to confirm the cause of death and establish a precise timeline of events.
After allegedly killing his family, Verma reportedly traveled to the Etawah railway station, where he attempted suicide by jumping onto the tracks in front of an approaching train. Eyewitnesses at the station reportedly raised the alarm, alerting nearby RPF officers who quickly intervened. The RPF personnel managed to pull Verma from the tracks, though he sustained minor injuries in the process. He is currently under police observation and is expected to be questioned once medically cleared.
Police are actively investigating the case, gathering forensic evidence from the home and reviewing Verma’s digital activity, including his WhatsApp status, for any potential clues. Officers are also interviewing relatives and neighbors to understand possible motives and family dynamics that may have contributed to the alleged murders and suicide attempt.
